Rollercoaster

Salaams,

This is like a re-ocurring theme, but again it's been a while since i have written anything. And from reading the last post, again quite a lot has happened...

Couple of weekends ago i did end up going to the Brazil Vs Argentina soccer (Bk..) game and it was really really good. Unfortunately some of the better players of Brazil were being rested but we did get to see an Amazing goal by Kaka and Tevez etc in action...i don't know if i saw enough to justify these guys being paid £100k+ a week though...The game was in the brand new Emirates stadium (home of Arsenal) and we ended up getting quite expensive seats as there was nothing else left so got a really good view of the game (alongside free half time drinks)

Anyway the theme of my life so far has ben training at work and revising for exams. This all came to an end...well was supposed to last week. The pass rate was 70% in all the exams and unfortunately i got a "marginal fail" in one of them so i need to resit it...it was quite a blow to be honest as i don't think i've ever "failed" an exam and so it was quite difficult to stomach, especially given that i had worked quite hard for it. However i'm trying to be philosophical as possible about it by saying you need random dissapointments in life to learn how to cope with it but also to make you feel more appreciaive of the good things.

Re teams at work, i ended up joining the Media team which is what i wanted from the very beginning (Rupert Murdoch watch out...) so i'm very excited and happy with this. I think i'll mainly be looking at publishing companies, but will also be covering companies like Reuters and Sky

Re the title of the entry, the last three weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster in terms of goings on with me...from the highs of getting the media position, to the lows of failing the exam with lots of other peaks and troughs in between...and so it's been quite difficult for everything to sink in as i think im the kind of person who needs time to deal with all the emotions which come with very good and then very bad news. so in some ways i've been feeling like a ping-pong ball in that one minute i'm over the moon and the next...i suppose this all shows the fragility of the human state of mind and how we should count our lucky stars with every blessing we have.

And talking of counting our blessings...Ramadan Mubarak...!! Yes Ramadan has started and as usual its done so on different days for people in the UK...Arhhhrhhrh.!!! when wil we sort it out...!

Speaking of that, Iftaar time is coming up so....

LB Blues...

Salaam,

Well guess what? I’m blogging at work…!

Yes, its that boring at the moment and I have Lots of free time…which I should really make the most of..Basically this has all arisen because I got pre-placed into research but I don’t know which team. So over the last 10 days I’ve been meeting all the teams and trying to figure out where I want to go. I’ve given my preferences in, but the teams are also meeting the other new hires so obviously can’t make their minds up ‘till they’ve seen everyone on who They want…and so leaving me with nothing to do…

Obviously there’s Always things to do; like I could be revising for my exam in a few weeks time, or reading up on some of the things I’ll be doing when I start properly, or…you get the picture. But to be honest I’d rather not. When I do start properly I know I’ll be working my socks off, so I may as well make the most of doing “nothing” now, and then when I am busy, look back fondly on these idle days…

Anyway on other news, quite a few things have happened;

I’ve finally moved into the new flat which I will be sharing with 4 other bros from Cam. Alhamdulilla it’s really really nice – it’s near Regents park mosque which is quite handy, plus that whole area is nice to live in, so the whole thing has ended well. The flat itself is nice and spacious and well worth the money. Although some have suggested I try and buy a place, get on the property ladder etc etc…I don’t think it’s really viable until I’m “stable” in London (plus the London prices..! The flat we’re in is like £1m+ if you want to buy…!!) It was a really nice feeling on Friday though as the uncertainty of where I'll be staying for the next year at least was finally over and I had got somewhere I could call "home" and which would be my base.

That weekend was the Notting Hill Carnival too, so I ended up going there to check it out. The carnival can be quite erratic in the sense that some areas on some days can be quite mellow and very family orientated, whereas other areas on other days are…quite the opposite. Although I briefly went last year, it was nice to go again just for the atmosphere.

Looking ahead, Sunday looks to be exciting as I managed to get hold of tickets for the Brazil Vs Argentina match at the arsenal stadium which, if it lives up to it, should be a cracker so I'm really looking for to that. And then on Monday, back to work…! I don't foresee any work-blogging happening though as by Monday I should be working away…
